Members of the Buckinghamshire Motorcycle Lodge and the Buckinghamshire Classic Car Lodge attended the Bucks PSLC Festival on 3rd June at Stowe School. They were there to represent Buckinghamshire Freemasons, and to attract new members, by showcasing some of the fantastic things our special interest lodges have been doing; we displayed both vintage motorbikes and cars at this fantastic venue.

The stand was maintained and cared for by Jack Clark, Paige Savoury, Matt Eaton, and John Francis, who manned it for the entire day and drew a lot of attention from visitors.

During the day, we were surprised by a special visit from Pro Grand Master Jonathan Spence, who took time out of his day to come over and see what was going on in Bucks.

The Masonic Fishing Charity, led by Dave Hollis, was also present on the day, having hosted another fantastic coarse fishing event at Stowe Lake with local school kids who had thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The successful duo of Past Asst PGM Tony Robinson and his wife Jean handled the catering side of this event on the day, with the ever popular BBQ, which was enjoyed by all.

Lodge of Concorde 8721

Lodge of Concorde was issued its Warrant on 29 April 1976 and was consecrated on 28 September 1976.

Initially a Middlesex Lodge, meeting at the Masonic Hall, New Windsor Street, Uxbridge until 1994 when the Lodge moved to the Province of Buckinghamshire - the Beaconsfield Masonic Centre.

The Lodge was believed to have been formed by a number of people working locally who had connections to the Concorde project. The first Concorde flight from Heathrow departed for Bahrain in January 1976.

Lodge of Concorde is now the Buckinghamshire Aviation Special Interest Lodge, and new members are always welcome.  As is often the way with special interest lodges, meetings are tailored to the theme of the lodge, and the Lodge of Concorde was no exception. In the meeting itself, aviation memorabilia and references are sprinkled throughout the meeting, with good humour accompanying the exceptional ritual.

At the festive board, the master and wardens don their pilot caps and navigate through an excellent three-course meal which is often delivered by trolley.

And with the aviation theme, a day out at Duxford is planned on 1st July for anyone, including family and friends.

Having rode up from Bucks the previous day, they enjoyed a night on the town. They were joined on the Saturday by members of other biker lodges; Mike Hailwood Lodge 9839 and Lincolnshire Free Wheelers Lodge 9991. In total over 50 attendees enjoyed a tremendous passing ceremony, tour of the excellent museum, and biker-café themed Festive Board! 
Giorgio, the head of the lodge, presented a Bucks tie, with Hall Stone jewel, to the museum curator, for its inclusion in the incredible collection at the museum.
It was the first time that a biker lodge had held a meeting in the Grantham Masonic Centre. A big thank you to members of    including The Granta Lodge, William Peters Lodge, Meridian Lodge, Sir Issac Newton Lodge and Doric Lodge – all of whom meet at the Grantham Centre.

Steve enjoys clay pigeon shooting in his free time. He joined freemasonry in the same way that many members of the organisation are shooters. After a while of attending masonic shoots, he decided to join freemasonry. He is a Clay Pigeon Shooting Association Safety Officer, and participated in English Skeet events, and is now an A class shooter.

Steve's favourite aspect of Freemasonry is supporting in the background in the more administrative roles in his many lodges.
Being in roles such as treasurer and assistant secretary, this as well as being a visiting officer and part of the craft communications team writing content for the provincial Facebook pages and articles for Concord magazine. 

Freemasonry's social aspect is a large part of why many masons enjoy it, and Steve thoroughly does also.
Steve has become more adept in groups and when doing public speaking by being a part of freemasonry, this is because we speak to each other in our meetings and making speeches at dinners, this therefore has increased his confidence in a variety of social situations. Steve enjoys how freemasonry allows you to meet people from all walks of life you’d never meet in normal life.

Pegasus Lodge 5637

This lodge is one of the provinces oldest special interest lodges.  It was originally formed as a lodge for those with military affiliation, formed by masons with a connection to the Royal Air Force, from nearby RAF Halton, near Wendover.

When they were first consecrated most of the applicants were members of, or associated with the Royal Air Force. Nowadays there are no such restrictions, although they are all proud of their shared heritage, and still have members with an RAF or aviation background.

One of the lodge's most notable Past Masters was Jerry Fray DFC, who was also a member of Daedalus Lodge, one of their sister lodges. Jerry played a key roll in the famous Dambuster's raid in World War 2, and you can find out more about him here:

AN AMBULANCE DRIVER

Gordon drives ambulances for the ECMO Unit at St Thomas' hospital. After 30 years at the met office and as a Detective Inspector Gordon retired. 
Gordon then volunteered to drive ambulances after they were desperately short in numbers during the pandemic, finally ending up at St. Thomas after moving once again. His career in the Police and during his retirement in the NHS has quite simply been about helping people who need it the most, Gordon emphasises how freemasonry resonates with this.

Gordon's favourite aspect of Freemasonry because of this is giving back. Gordon likes the ways in which freemasonry has charity at its core. Gordon enjoys the sense of satisfaction in helping people both in freemasonry and driving ambulances. He also mentions a selfless culture, where many of its members will always lend a "sympathetic ear" to those who need it most and provide what they can to help.

Freemasonry has been a part of Gordon's life for a very long time as a member of nearly 40 years, so it has helped him most of his adult life. Gordon is inspired by the selfless actions of many of the members and he always works in many ways to emulate their example. 

To be better and to help others truly is one of the core principles on which masonry is founded.

On Saturday The Household Division Lodge were hosted by the Buckinghamshire Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge who conducted a second degree on behalf of our Lodge. 

The Stewards Lodge, were pleased to have in attendance the Provincial Grand Master, his Deputy along with the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master. As well as two Assistant and two Past Assistant Provincial Grand Masters present.

The Stewards Lodge held a superb meeting using the excellent crop of current active Stewards to take significant roles in the ceremony and delivered it impeccably!

Attending from Household Division Lodge was our Senior Deacon, Almoner, a Steward and the candidate. As well as our Secretary who is the Junior Warden in the Stewards Lodge, Tyler who is also the Tyler and our Visiting Officer who is the Inner Guard.

A brilliant meeting and enjoyable festive board!

On the 12th May 2023, Watling Street Chapter No. 1639 played host to the Provincial Grand Chapter Team for an Exaltation Convocation.

The Chapter meets at St Giles Parish Rooms in Stony Stratford which is a delightful converted church complete with a winding staircase into the Chapter room. 

Provincial DC Paul had his work cut out arranging the procession into the Chapter going from two rows formed up in the dining room, down to single file up the stairs them back into two rows once in the room. 

Under his expert guidance it all went perfectly though.

A fabulous evening that saw a Proclamation of our WM, followed by the initiation of our new Brother Michael in the Temple……then a full blown Wine 🍷 tasting at the festive board. 

Bro Lee  (our resident Somelier) took the brethren through wine tasting techniques and process whilst enjoying 4 wines (2 whites, 2 reds) pairing them with the 3 food courses! 

It was a triumph of an evening and was well received by all!

The large gathering at the Winslow Masonic Centre witnessed a first class logic ritual ceremony second to none. Our Provincial guest WBro Norman  ProvGWarden presented the lodge with the Louis jewel (lewis) which he them invested WBro Peter with this historic jewel for accepting the roll of lodge Membership Officer.

Buckinghamshire Emergency Services Lodge 3077

Based at the Bletchley Masonic Centre, but with meetings held at Aylesbury, Stony Stratford, Winslow & Beaconsfield.  A travelling lodge.

Grenfell Lodge 3077 had fallen on hard times when a group of Buckinghamshire Freemasons stepped into lend a helping hand. Early 2017 this group joined the Lodge and the Buckinghamshire Emergency Services Lodge was born. 

You don’t have to be a serving or former member of the emergency services to be part of the fellowship. Since reforming they have had five initiates and thirteen joiners, and now stand at 23 members with more to come

They enjoy a fine fellowship and have recently started wearing their service headwear and miniature medals during the Festive Board.  Members of the Emergency Services have been awarded jubilee medals since 2002 as well as long service medals.

The meeting was for our their new members, former Life Guard and Scots Guard and was attended by 63 members and visitors, also welcoming three more joining members.

The White Table Festive Board saw friends, partners, and future candidates for the Lodge totalling 87 dining. 

Those in attendance were treated to an excellent after dinner speech by Paul ‘Tug’ Hartley GM. Tug gave an excellent insight to his life through his “Hero to Zero” talk, one which resonated with so many present. His eye opening account of how his life changed when he was awarded the George Medal, and not all for the best, was said to be one of the best they had the privilege to listen to.

Throughout the course of the evening our charitable donations raised over £2000 that will see donations made to Pilgrim Bandits Charity and Hull4Heroes on behalf of Tug. As well as continued efforts to raise money for the Worshipful Master’s chosen charity, Royal Star & Garter.
