A Unique Classic Car Lodge Meeting in the Provincial Grand Master’s Garden
Recently, one of the most unique lodge meetings in recent memory was held not in a traditional Masonic hall, but in the picturesque back garden of the Provincial Grand Master, W Bro Tim Anders, in Pyrton, Oxfordshire.
The event, hosted by the Classic Car Lodge, began at 10:00 AM with a barbecue breakfast lovingly prepared by Steve Pratt. Members and visitors were treated to a hearty spread of sausages, bacon, eggs, baked beans, and bread rolls—a delicious and communal way to begin the day. Though the forecast threatened rain, the gathering just about dodged the weather, allowing the event to unfold smoothly.
The Lodge meeting took place inside a large marquee erected in the garden, attended by over 20 members and guests. Given the intense summer heat, jackets were declared optional—much to everyone's relief! W Bro Steve Pepper sat in the Chair as Worshipful Master and conducted an excellent meeting. In true classic car spirit, he also brought along three of his prized vehicles, which remained on display overnight for the enjoyment of those attending the Provincial Grand Master's Summer Party the following day.
Throughout the meeting, classic car music played gently over the speakers, setting a charming tone that blended tradition with nostalgia. A particularly heart-warming moment occurred when W Bro Tim Anders was proposed as an honorary member of the Lodge, a gesture that was met with warm applause and heartfelt appreciation—truly a highlight of the day.
After the meeting, the spirit of teamwork came to the fore. More than 20 helpers stayed behind to assist in setting up additional marquees and tents across the grounds in preparation for Sunday’s festivities. Thanks to their efforts, the space was beautifully transformed, ready to welcome guests for what promised to be another spectacular day.
The event was not only a celebration of Freemasonry but also a testament to community, classic motoring, and the generous hospitality of the Provincial Grand Master himself. It was, without question, an inspired idea—and an exceptional success.
